Fujian, Karelia Eye More Practical Cooperation

A delegation led by Timofeev, Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia, and Padsadnik, Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Karelia paid a visit to Fujian in late March.

On the evening of March 25, Liang Jianyong, member of the Standing Committee and Secretary-General of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, and Vice Governor Guo Ningning met with the delegation.

Liang briefed the delegation on Fujian’s latest economic and social developments and its economic cooperation with Russia. He set out that Fujian and Karelia, since the establishment of sister relationship, have made substantial progress in cooperation in sectors including wind power generation, trade of aquatic products, art, tourism and education. He called for further joined efforts in holding “sister-cities week” events and advancing the delivery of cooperation projects, and believed that the practical cooperation between the two sides could become a new example and highlight of China-Russia subnational cooperation and contribute to the development of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Timofeev appreciated the steady growth of Karelia-Fujian friendly relationship and its positive results. He and Liang reached understanding on more win-win cooperation in economy and trade, culture, tourism, and medical car.

During the stay, the delegation also discussed Yonghui Superstore on increasing the purchase of goods from Karelia, and followed up with Fujian Investment Group on setting up a joint wind power plant in Karelia.
