Min-style Spring Festival sets tourism record in Fujian

Fujian province recorded 45.32 million visits and 39.76 billion yuan ($5.77 billion) in tourism revenue during the nine-day Spring Festival holiday, marking year-on-year increases of 25.8 percent and 28.9 percent, respectively.

More than 4,300 tourism events were held and over 560 public cultural programs were introduced with State-owned performing arts troupes staging 506 in-person performances for 901,600 people, while 73 livestreamed shows drew 10.51 million online views.

Across 90 designated folk culture activity sites, a total of 443 events were held, including street parades, traditional cultural performances, and hands-on activities, as well as sporting events, attracting nearly 180,000 participants.

Fujian also launched 100 themed cultural tourism experiences highlighting the distinctive Min culture of the province. Scenic areas rated 4A or above recorded 14.28 million tourist visits, up 14.6 percent year on year. Fuzhou's Three Lanes and Seven Alleys drew more than 1.45 million visits, while Wuyi Mountain, Gulangyu Island, and other popular attractions all set new visitor records.

Drone light shows, VR and AR exhibitions, and immersive theater experiences were among the highlights of Fujian's holiday cultural programs, with multi-dimensional immersive performance, Homming Minnan, premiering in Zhangzhou. Interactive pop-up performances featuring robots presenting intangible cultural heritage drew large crowds in Xiamen.

Online travel platform Trip.com reported a 16.7 percent increase year on year in inbound tourist visits to Fujian, with inbound tourism spending rising by 29.6 percent.
