Spain's Getafe CF defeated Russia's Zenit 2-0 in the final of the fourth Happy Island International Youth Football Tournament, which concluded on Oct 8 in Zhangzhou, Fujian province.
The tournament brought together 16 U16 teams from nine countries, including the United States, Brazil, Spain, Russia, Poland, India, Thailand, South Korea, and China. The teams represented four continents and competed in 48 matches over six days. Eight teams came from overseas and eight from China.
The field featured youth teams from overseas clubs such as Brazil's Red Bull Bragantino and Spain's Getafe CF, as well as club youth squads from Fujian, Zhejiang, Tianjin, Beijing, and other parts of China. Both the number of participating teams and the overall level of competition were the highest in the event's history.
Now in its fourth edition, the invitational has grown from 10 teams representing three continents in its inaugural year to 16 teams from four continents this year.
The tournament was held as the Gulei Development Zone advances major projects and expands industrial clusters. The zone has trade ties with several countries represented in the competition, including the US, Brazil, Spain, Russia, and South Korea, in energy equipment, chemical products, and agricultural products.
