China's self-developed jetliner, the C919, marked an historical milestone on May 25 when it completed its inaugural commercial flight from Shanghai to Xiamen — officially launching the first C919 route to East China's Fujian province.

The flight, operated by China Eastern Airlines with 148 passengers on board, departed Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and landed at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport where it was welcomed by a water cannon salute, a traditional celebration in aviation.

As a result, Xiamen became the 12th city in China Eastern Airlines' C919 network.

Starting May 25, the C919 will operate daily round-trip flights between the two cities, signaling its transition into regular commercial service.
