The 2025 Cross-Strait (Fuzhou) Fisheries Week and the 17th China (Fuzhou) International Seafood & Fisheries Expo concluded on June 15, having made a big splash with all the participants.
Over the course of the three-day event, on-site retail sales totaled 350 million yuan ($48.7 million), with intended turnover reaching 1.56 billion yuan, while the show handled a whopping 196,000 visitors in all.
Avid expo fan Ms Chen eagerly filled her shopping bag with an array of seafood delights like yellow croakers, jellyfish and abalones. She said she was thrilled to get the chance to savor seafood specialties from diverse regions that are typically hard to find.
This year's expo attracted participants from more than 30 countries and regions, boasting nearly 500 exhibitors and ranking it as the world's second-biggest fisheries expo.
The event's popularity translated into lucrative business prospects, with exhibitors likening the expo to a powerful commercial magnet that drew buyers and distributors from various regions.
The online segment was equally lively, with many exhibitors utilizing live streaming sessions to secure product sales. Lin, marketing manager at Fuzhou Baiyang Seafood Co Ltd, noted: "The expo serves as a platform seamlessly integrating online and offline activities. Our online revenue surged by 20 percent to 30 percent compared to usual."
Statistics revealed that online transactions in the Douyin e-commerce section during the expo topped 10 million yuan.
Moreover, the expo featured a private domain buyers festival, a special supermarket docking session and a catering brand buyers direct procurement meeting. Nearly 120 companies forged collaboration agreements, with anticipated turnover exceeding 300 million yuan.
The latest edition of the fisheries expo saw the participation of 10 countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, Russia, Australia and Canada, marking a record number of international participants.
Additionally, the expo showcased the Fujian-Taiwan harmony conference on fishery integration development and a promotion event, fostering collaboration for cross-Strait industrial growth.
The hosting of the Fisheries Week and Expo in Fuzhou is widely said to epitomize the city's commitment to developing "Maritime Fuzhou".
