Fourth China-Oregon Forum on Climate Change and Sustainability Successfully Concludes
From December 11 to 12, the Fourth China-Oregon Forum on Climate Change and Sustainability was held via video link, connecting Fujian, Tianjin and Oregon. Representatives from local governments, universities, research institutes, and friendly organizations in China and the United States attended in the forum.
In his speech, Vice Governor Wang Jinfu of Fujian highlighted Fujian’s commitment to implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Conservation and advancing the development of the national demonstration zone for ecological progress. He expressed Fujian’s readiness to expand exchanges and cooperation in climate change with all stakeholders by sharing experiences in disaster prevention and mitigation, emergency response, and resilient city-building. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening investment and cooperation in green industries, and fostering mutual learning and ecological awareness among youth through partnerships among national parks.
Chinese Consul General in San Francisco Zhang Jianmin noted that collaborative efforts among Tianjin, Fujian and Oregon will not only contribute to their respective carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals but also provide valuable experience for global climate governance.
Oregon State Senator Michael Dembrow and Oregon Deputy Secretary of State Cheryl Myers shared Oregon’s progress in addressing climate change, including its ambitious emission reduction targets and various initiatives.
The forum, initiated in 2021 by Fujian Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, Tianjin Foreign Affairs Office, and Oregon-China Council, has become a major platform for subnational cooperation in climate change between China and the United States. Over the two-day event, experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on building climate-resilient smart cities, national parks, and climate-smart agriculture.
